Irons served more than two decades in a prison and was released in July. Moore worked tirelessly, even taking a two-year sabbatical from basketball, to help him overturn his conviction.

During their appearance on “Good Morning America,” Moore, 31, said that she and Irons, 40, got married a couple of months ago in a socially distanced wedding surrounded by family and friends.

Moore met Irons through a prison ministry program when she was 18 and the romantic feelings progressed gradually over time.

“Over the last 13 years we have just developed a friendship and just entered into this huge battle to get him home and just over time it was pretty clear what the Lord was doing in our hearts and now we’re sitting here today, starting a whole new chapter together, said Moore.

Irons was 16 years old when he was convicted for a 1997 home invasion and shooting and sentenced to 50 years. In March, after citing multiple issues with the case, a judge threw out his conviction.

Now a justice reform activist, Irons said that he first proposed while he was still in prison but did not want to trap Moore from fulfilling her dreams of becoming a wife and mother. Once freed, he asked again. The couple has been involved in social justice along with voting initiatives since Iron’s release. The two released a video together on Wednesday urging people to vote.

Moore who now has taken another season hiatus from playing basketball for the Minnesota Lynx and a return to the game is still possible.

“I’m hoping sometime in the spring we’ll be able to have a next step moving forward,” said Moore. “But now, I am trying to really just breathe from this long, long battle, and enjoy and rest…there’s a lot of unknowns for a lot of us right now, so I’m still in that camp.”

Congratulations to the lovely couple on their union!
