Mike Epps has put in his bid to portray Richard Pryor!
The actor and comedian posted a pic of himself next to a photo of the late great entertainer and tagged producer in Kenya Barris in the post.
Epps says, “I believe I can win a Oscar for the culture if I had the chance smh believers vs nonbelievers #richardpryor they sleepin on us ya’ll @kenyabarris we need this for the people.”
A biopic that details Richard Pryor’s life was originally scheduled to start production back in 2016 under The Weinstein Company which is now defunct. Mike Epps was set to play Richard Pryor alongside Oprah Winfrey as Pryor’s grandmother and Kate Hudson as Pryor’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor with Lee Daniels as the director.
Reports say that the film had been delayed in 2017 because of Lee Daniel’s schedule. It was placed on hold indefinitely when Daniels stepped away due to consistent conflicts with his schedule.
When asked about the project in 2019 Mike Epps said, “it was a Weinstein Company project…you might not see that one.” This response came after the co-founder of the company, Harvey Weinstein made headlines after several accusations of sexual assault before he was ultimately found guilty and sentenced. The Weinstein Company has since filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and Weinstein is currently serving 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.
Now the question is, who will pick up the film, and would you want to see Mike Epps fulfill the role? Let us know in the comments!
