Regina King gave a moving speech as she accepted the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture award for her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk.” In addition to acknowledging her tribe including Director Barry Jenkins, Publicist Mike Liotta and son Ian Alexander Jr., King challenged industries to stand in solidarity with the Times Up x2 movement as she pledged to ensure inclusion for women.
“Time’s Up times two,” King said during her speech. “The reason why we do this is because we understand that our microphones are big and that we’re speaking for everyone. I’m going to use my platform to say that in the next two years, I am making a vow and, it’s going to be tough, to make sure that everything I produce is 50 percent women. I challenge everyone out there who is in a position of power, not just in our industry but in all industries, I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same.”
