Right Or Wrong? SZA Slams Unknown Magazine For Refusing To Hire A Black Photographer

SZA doesn’t play when it comes to representation across the board!

The Grammy-nominated singer, born SolΓ‘na Imani Rowe, took to Twitter to express her concern after a magazine denied her request to hire a Black photographer for a photoshoot of a cover that they wanted her to grace with her presence.

“I requested a Black photographer for a cover [and] the mag told me no lol,” she wrote via Twitter. “It’s 2021…and almost Juneteenth. Respectfully I can’t do it Β πŸ™„ πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ.”

While users tore the replies up asking the “Good Days” singer to reveal the name of the publication, SZA refused to share.

“Das not my vibe but there’s TOO many elite Black creatives rn to not allow it,” was her response.

She also followed up with another tweet that showed love to the magazines that are getting it right…

“S/o @RollingStone @Cosmopolitan and @wonderlandmag btw for all using black photogs in our recent covers πŸ’œΒ  gotta celebrate when it’s RIGHT too!πŸ™πŸΎπŸ’›, β€œ wrote SZA.

No stranger to uplifting up-and-coming Black creatives, SZA has always been one to show love throughout her career.

According to The New York Times, for the concept of the promotional photos and cover of her 2017 chart-topping album, “CTRL”,Β  the singer tapped 24-year-old Sage Adams to serve as the creative director.

Together the two also created “Ctrl Fishing Co., a clothing line that uses sustainable fabrics that include recycled tie-dye.

It wouldn’t surprise us if she taps in with one of the many Black photographers shooting their shot under her now-viral tweet. Do you think SZA should’ve put them on blast or kept this to herself?
